Match Made in AI-ven Characters (New Year, New Skills Game Jam by Bitter Sails Games)

These are characters I made for the New Year, New Skills game jam by Bitter Sails Games on Itch.io where the theme was "Building Connections".

I was tasked to make 5 different characters, one of which being a robot for the player character. Since the NPCs were all going to be humanoid, and I only had 7 days to make the models, I created one base mesh that I then used for all characters. Since the player character was a lot different, it needed a unique mesh. So, using the base mesh for the NPCs gave me more time to focus on the unique mesh of the player character and keep on track to finish the NPCs.

I also used ArtMonky's Hair Brush form Gumroad to help make the hairstyles.

The game we made is called Match Made in AI-ven, where a little robot called Romur, is given the task to pair people together based on the technologies matchmaking algorithm.

Here is the link to the game!: https://dragon-roar-at-daybreak.itch.io/match-made-in-ai-ven. :)

Romur is the player character. Since they are the matchmaker, I based their design off of the idea of being struck by Cupids arrow - hence the heart shaped head and the arrow shaped antenna.

I decided not to use normal maps as they did not look the best in the lighting of the game.

This is Rachel! One of the 4 candidates for Romur to find a match for.
Due to the time constraints, I decided to rely on texturing for her hair and draw the plaits out rather than sculpt and bake them.

This is Rachel's base colour map. All of the NPCs will have the same layout for the body maps as I reused the base mesh.
I used Photoshop to reuse the eyebrows, mouth, eyelashes and eyes (just changed the colour through hue and saturation to save on time)
